The Rockets had an odd offseason but this next story you’re about to read today is hilarious. Just no other way to describe it. Slinging D aside, you just have to respect this move Ime Udoka pulled off.
The NBA fanboys that live and breathe offseason were under the impression that it was only a matter of time before James Harden re-joined the Houston Rockets. It was being reported left and right prior to the start of free agency. It turns out Udoka said no thanks to the ultimate quitter.
“From everything we’ve gotten out of there, it was a matter that Ime didn’t want him,” one league source told Heavy Sports. “At the beginning, were they thinking about Harden? Yeah. But then they hired Ime, and Ime said, ‘It’s not going to work here.’”
What a move. What else is there to say? It’s like the Chickster drove to Houston and put on a DARE-esque PowerPoint presentation on why Harden is a cancer. Just like drugs; say no!
Instead of signing Harden, the Rockets made a flurry of signings that include Fred VanVleet (link) and Dillon Brooks (link). It’s clear Udoka wanted some grit on his team over a pouter like Harden. Given the way Houston played last year, maybe that was the right course of action. The Rockets were brutal to watch last year. Maybe this year’s team will have some heart and be more competitive.
More importantly, it’s just so funny that Harden got turned down. Not like in the past where he bailed. No… this time a team just said no. Brutal!
