I Don’t Understand Why Anybody Cares About The 4 Nations Tournament

The rosters for the 4 Nation tournament were announced yesterday. I’m just not sure why anybody cares.

Can we just be honest about something? This tournament is a total con job and I can’t fathom why anybody would care about it. Look, I get it’s cool to represent your country and all but I’d argue this tournament is a slap in the face true competition and it’s not arguable.

The Sphere Should Be The Permanent Home For The NHL Draft

This tournament reeks of politics. If you had to compare it to anything, it sure feels like the equivalent of the World Baseball Classic except if the WBC decided they were just going to ban certain countries from competing because that’s all this really is.

Just like the WBC, it’s an excuse to generate money while the players don’t make a dime. If we want to bring country pride back, do it at the Olympics. If it’s not the Olympics, I’m out. There’s zero reason to put the NHL Season on hiatus for this goofy tournament a vast amount of the countries are banned from competing.

By the way, what’s going to happen if someone gets hurt at this stupid tournament? Are we still going to act like it was cool while the NHL team that actually pays the player has their season tanked? It’s nonsense and I’ll win any debate on how trash this tournament is. By the way, the Mets had their season tanked when Edwin Diaz got hurt at the WBC. That’s a real possibility with this.

4 Nations? This is like some stinky bootleg version of the Olympics that people are way too excited about. Let’s be serious about one thing. You can’t pretend to crown anybody the world champion if Russia is excluded. Why should every single Russian player be punished because Putin is power hungry? Where is Germany, Switzerland, and Czechia? If we’re not including all of the big boys, let’s stop pretending this tournament means a damn.

Maybe I’ll watch it. Maybe I won’t. Either way, I don’t really care what happens in this tournament. The only thing that matters is if players come back healthy. If I were a player picked for one of these rosters, I’d refuse to attend. Someone else can take my spot on this made up tournament we’re all conned into caring about because of politics. There is no way to interpret it any other way.
