Howie Roseman Should Fire Himself For Drafting JJ Arcega-Whiteside Over DK Metcalf

Everybody makes mistakes. That’s part of being human. Then there are mistakes that only morons make. When the Eagles front office, led by Howie Roseman, drafted JJ Arcega-Whiteside over DK Metcalf, I laughed hysterically. As time as passed, I’m still laughing at them. There are mistakes and then there are mistakes that are just downright embarrassing. DK Metcalf looks like a star and JJ Arcega-Whiteside flat out can’t play. We knew this a year ago. Howie Roseman should be on the hot seat at minimum. If the Eagles just fired him, I wouldn’t bat an eye.

Overall, Roseman is an excellent GM. He drafted Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham, and a bunch of good players. It took some wizardry to move up to snag Carson Wentz too. Still, what the Eagles were putting out there on the field at wide receiver was embarrassing. Greg Ward was their best receiver all year and he didn’t make the initial 53 man roster. DK Metcalf should have been that guy.

It was such a great wide receiver class this year. Deebo Samuel, AJ Brown, Marquire Brown, and Metcalf look like stars. Diontae Johnson, Hunter Renfrow, Terry McLaurin, and Mecole Hardman look like solid contributors. Roseman happened to pick the one that just flat out can’t play. It’s not like it was hard to see coming too. There’s nothing to like about Arcega-Whiteside. He’s an unathletic jump ball receiver. He was on my guaranteed bust list prior to the 2019 NFL Draft.

Is DK Metcalf The Most Polarizing Draft Prospect Ever?

With virtually no competition on the roster and an elite quarterback throwing the ball, Arcega-Whiteside proved he can’t play. He had 10 receptions on the entire season. DK Metcalf, meanwhile, continues to carve everyone alive. It’s going to go down as one of the more baffling draft decisions of all-time. It didn’t make sense months ago and it doesn’t make sense now. Howie Roseman should think about firing himself for this one.
