Howard Basketball: Blake Harper Showing Out in Freshman Season

With so many freshmen dominating the headlines this college basketball season, one who is still flying under the radar is Blake Harper of Howard Basketball.

Harper has stuffed the state sheet for the Bison, averaging over 14 points, six rebounds, two assists, and a steal per game. His only classmates with those levels of production are Duke’s Cooper Flagg, Georgetown’s Thomas Sorber, and Maryland’s Derik Queen. Pretty good company considering those three are among the very best freshmen in the country and are receiving first-round NBA Draft looks.

The Gonzaga College High School (DC) product just received MEAC Rookie of the Week honors for the fifth consecutive week.

Blake is one of 4 freshman averaging at least 14 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal per game.

When asked to describe his game as a senior in high school, Harper told Howard’s collegiate newspaper The Hilltop:

“If you go see Blake Harper play, there’s nothing really flashy. I play the game the right way. I like to get my teammates involved. I’m really vocal on the court. If the shot is there, I’m gonna shoot it. I’m a player not looking for points or stats or anything like that. Whatever it takes to win, that’s what will be done.”

Even if not the self-proclaimed goal of his game, Blake Harper is nonetheless putting up stats. He’s a name to watch in MEAC play this year.
