Baseball looks to have taken a new step forward in the entertainment industry. It was announced last week that Home Run Dugout, a sports entertainment company, will be opening its second location in Katy, Texas, on March 30. The Katy franchise will be their first standalone location after sharing the first inside the Dell Diamond minor league stadium in Round Rock, Texas.
The concept is basically exactly the same as Topgolf: Food, drinks and a simplified version of baseball that can be played with large groups of people. There will be soft-thrown pitches instead of a machine. The amenities are state-of-the-art, especially when you consider Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan is one of the investors.
It seems like the ol’ ball game is making a comeback. Things like the World Baseball Classic and the expansion of companies, like Home Run Dugout, are nothing short of great for the sport. Instead of worrying about cheating scandals and frequent labor disputes, the game has been promoted infinitely better than in years past.
Who knows, perhaps it may now start to push back on basketball and football?. Minor League Baseball viewership could already be on the rise. You just can’t count it out. If Home Run Dugout starts moving out of Texas, or a rival starts sprouting up, anything can happen.
I would totally go to Home Run Dugout if I lived in Texas. Personally, I’m a big fan of this concept. Especially from a family perspective, you can kill a lot of birds with one stone here. Get a good meal, have a few drinks and enjoy a great time with the kids. If you want to read into it a little more, the game of baseball as a whole could probably benefit from it.
