College football legend Herschel Walker announced he is running for a U.S. Senate seat in Georgia on Wednesday.
In a statement announcing his candidacy Walker said this:
“Our country is at a crossroads, and I can’t sit on the sidelines anymore. In the United States Senate, I will stand up for conservative values and get our country moving in the right direction. It is time to have leaders in Washington who will fight to protect the American Dream for everybody.”

“I’m a kid from a small town in Georgia who lived the American Dream, and I’m ready to fight to keep that dream alive for you too.”

Walker will be running on the Republican ticket and looking to unseat rookie Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock in the 2022 midterm elections.
The former Georgia Bulldog standout won a national championship in 1980 and was declared the Heisman trophy winner in 1982. After spending two seasons in the United States Football League (USFL), Walker was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round of the 1985 NFL Draft. He spent 12 seasons in the NFL on four teams – the Cowboys, Vikings, Eagles and Giants. Walker rushed for 8,225 yards in his career, scoring 61 touchdowns.
