Henry Cavill got screwed, but he will have the last laugh

Henry Cavill, arguably one of the most likable actors in Hollywood, got screwed as big business strikes again. The elites in Hollywood appear not to care about fans, instead leaning on their own hubris to push their ideas to reality. What they don’t understand is that Cavill will be the one who gets the last laugh, and the first domino has already fallen.

The Story So Far

Over the past few months, Cavill has made headlines multiple times discussing his future. Back in October, it was announced by Cavill that he was leaving Netflix’s The Witcher.

Many, including myself, were upset by this news. Cavill is a huge Witcher fan, both games and books, and really wanted the show to succeed. When the series was first announced, Cavill did everything he could to make sure he was the one playing Geralt.

But things were not all rainbows on The Witcher set. According to Beau DeMayo, a former producer and writer of the show, many of the writers disliked the books and games and even openly mocked the original source material. DeMayo brought this up in a Q&A on Instagram when discussing how when he was hired by Disney to revive the X-Men cartoon series from the 90s, he wanted writers that actually respected the property they were working on.

This bombshell from DeMayo came out around the same time that Cavill announced his departure from the show and his return as Superman.

Cavill’s initial run as the caped crusader was rough, but everyone agreed the 39-year-old fit the role perfectly and, with better writers, could be the greatest to ever don the cape. Fans of Cavill were excited to see him return in a post-credit scene for Black Adam, but that happiness would soon fade.

The Death of Superman

This is where we get to Henry Cavill getting screwed. James Gunn, who directed all of the Guardians of the Galaxy films and The Suicide Squad, was recently hired by Warner Brothers to take over DC’s cinematic universe.

Inevitably, the slate was going to be cleaned and a hard reboot was guaranteed. The hope of fans was that some of the actors, specifically Cavill, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and Jason Momoa as Aquaman, would survive this shake-up.

While the rest are in doubt, Cavill confirmed he would not be returning as Superman.

A lot of fans, myself included, are rightfully angry with Gunn. Sure, his Superman film might be great, but Cavill was born to play the role. Not just that, but why would the studio attempt to bring back Cavill if they were just going to do away with him? I fully believe because of the way the writers were treating the Witcher, Cavill wanted out. His return to Superman was that out and Gunn screwed him.

FOR THE EMPEROR!

But hope is not lost. Cavill was not going to be a free agent for long. Remember when Thanos said, “Fine, I’ll do it myself,”? Well, Cavill has decided to go full Thanos with his next project. Today, it was announced that Cavill would produce a new series based on the Warhammer 40K universe.

This is where Cavill will have the last laugh. The new DC movies for the Gunn era might be a success, but Gunn doesn’t have a lot going for him. His one DC movie was a financial failure and while the Guardians movies are some of the best MCU movies, his MCU films were part of a much larger universe with a nerd like Kevin Feige leading the way.

As for The Witcher, I can tell you right now after season 3, the show will flop. Liam Hemsworth is set to take the role of Geralt for season 4 and onward. Nothing against Hemsworth, but the way the show is moving away from the source material will only spell disaster for the show. The new spinoff series, The Witcher: Blood Origin, is not doing so hot from the reviews. Not a great look.

Laughing to the Bank

As for Cavill and his Warhammer 40K series, this truly has the compacity to be something special.

I have only delved into a little of the Warhammer games, I have never even played the tabletop, but I recognize just how huge this property is. There are millions of fans worldwide and nearly infinite stories to tell. Henry Cavill is a massive Warhammer fan and even paints his own figures for his armies. With him at the helm, this project is sure to succeed. And it doesn’t hurt to have some of that sweet Amazon money to fund your property.

It could be some time, but I fully believe that by the time the Warhammer show finally comes out, the previous two properties Cavill graced with his presence will be in the toilet, or not at their full potential.

That is when Henry Cavill will have the last laugh. Everyone that screwed him will see just how big a star he really is.
