Back in 2015, English football star Harry Kane ignited the idea of the possibility of playing in the NFL after soccer. Now, Kane has further backed up his previous statement in 2015, saying it is something he’d love to do, he said on Good Morning America.
(All quotes are from Pro Football Rumors.)
“It’s something I want to definitely explore,” Kane said during an appearance on Good Morning America (video link). “I know it’ll be a lot of hard work. I’m not expecting to just walk up and start kicking field goals. It will be a lot of practice, a lot of hard work but, yeah, it’s something I’d love to do. The NFL is something I’ve been following for about 10 years now, and I love it. So, would love to give it a go.”
Kane has been a part of the Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League since 2012-13. Kane has led the Premier League in scoring three times across his career, as well as climbing his way up to second all-time in Premier League Goals.
The 29-year-old has clearly stated that the NFL journey would come after his English football career concludes. Kane’s age and skill level are highly intriguing for any NFL team, as football players often translate well to American football kickers.
Other players in foreign leagues have attempted their NFL journeys in the past, like Jordan Mailata, who played professional rugby in Australia before getting drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft. But, like Mailata, Kane will have to translate his foreign game to the NFL, as developing into a consistent enough kicker to make an NFL roster is quite a tall task.
