The 2020 NFL Draft is loaded with wide receiver talent. As many as 5 or 6 could be taken in the first round. The best of the bunch includes Jerry Jeudy, CeeDee Lamb, and Henry Ruggs III. What if I told you that Ja’Marr Chase was better than all of them? Well, it’s probably true. Chase will most likely be the first wide receiver taken in the 2021 NFL Draft. His kill list from this past season is hard to ignore.
I just said this on the podcast but it’s true. Ja’Marr Chase just kicked everybody’s ass all season. The LSU product was the most dominant wide receiver in the country a season ago. 84 receptions, 1,780 yards, and 20 touchdowns. It was an incredible season leading the way as Joe Burrow’s primary target. What’s more impressive is the list of corners he abused all season.
CJ Henderson, Trevon Diggs, and AJ Terrell were all slaughtered along the way. All of those corners will probably be taken in the first two rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft. Ja’Marr Chase stuck every single one of them in his back pocket. Even Auburn who I didn’t list, Chase went for 8 receptions and 123 yards.
The first man on the kill sheet? CJ Henderson. The Florida corner will likely be the 2nd CB off the board. Here’s a brief recap of what Chase did to him. Luckily, I found a great YouTube account to post the videos.
Henderson battled better than most. He made a few plays on the ball which is a lot better than the next guys can say. You will notice a few other things. Henderson couldn’t tackle Chase. That’s one of the big things he brings to the table. The LSU product is a really physical player. Henderson played decent coverage on the end zone slant but it wasn’t enough. Chase also has good speed and can certainly win the deep route blowing by Henderson late in the game. 7 receptions for 127 yards and 2 scores on a first round corner.
Up next was Trevon Diggs and Alabama. I love Diggs as a prospect. If you want to point to one red flag in his career, it’s this game. Picture around Halloween time when you just carve out a pumpkin with a knife. You do whatever you want to that Pumpkin. That was Chase toying with Diggs.
Diggs is a corner with great ball skills. His brother is Stefon Diggs, C’mon. When someone like Diggs keeps losing time and time again at the catch point, you start to realize how impressive Ja’Marr Chase is. I don’t know how else to say it. Ball in the air, number one on LSU comes away with it. Diggs is one of the best press corners in this draft. Don’t even bother with that cheese against Chase. He’s too physical.
I don’t even know who to compare him to? He has this rare ability to shake off press, stop on a dime and win the route. Chase didn’t lose reps. The only time he didn’t come away with a reception was due to a no call for blatant pass interference and a bad throw by Joe Burrow. At the end of the day, it was 6 receptions for 140 yards and a score.
Finally, we have footage from the National Championship Game. You thought CJ Henderson got beat up? You thought Trevon Diggs got carved like a pumpkin? Nothing compares to this. Ja’Marr chase killing AJ Terrell was like playing Grand Theft Auto when you just take out everybody in site and then type in the cheat code to remove the wanted stars. I have AJ Terrell off my cornerback list because of this game along. Number 8 didn’t look like he belonged on the field.
I think the deceptive speed and suddenness stood out here. I don’t care how you slice it, the man was unguardable. 9 catches, 221 yards, and 2 touchdowns for the win.
You thought the draft was loaded at wide receiver this year? Wait until next year when you have Justyn Ross, Jaylen Waddle, Devonta Smith, and Rondale Moore. As of now, Ja’Marr Chase leads the group. The man with the most kills in the country.
