Grand Theft Auto VI- What We Know and What We Want

Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto is one of the biggest video game franchises on the market and it is finally Grand Theft Auto VI season. Rockstar Games has already begun to shift resources from Red Dead to Grand Theft Auto VI as they fully focus on delivering a magnificent game. GTA V, the latest installment in the franchise, was originally released on Sept. 17, 2013. Now in 2022, fans have learned a little bit about GTA VI, and they have had years to think about what they want to see in the next game. 

What We Know

1. A New Female Protagonist

According to a Bloomberg report on Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto VI will have a playable female protagonist for the first time in the GTA 3D universe. They had playable female characters in the first GTA, but the game was nowhere near as popular or important as the more recent GTA games have been. It will be awesome to have a playable protagonist that is not only female but a Latinx character. There will be one other playable protagonist and because of this, the story mode will resemble a Bonnie & Clyde style adventure. 

2. GTA VI location 

According to the same Bloomberg report, GTA VI will bring back a fictionalized version of Miami. This should be exciting for GTA fans as it means we might be seeing the return of the iconic GTA map, Vice City. There were additional rumors that the story would take place in both North America and South America, but it is not clear if that is happening anymore. However, GTA VI will have more locations added after launch.

3. Release Date

Unfortunately, there is no release date, but we do know the release date is not set for anytime soon. Grand Theft Auto VI has been in the works in some way, shape, or form since 2014 and there is no doubt when it drops it will be one of the biggest games ever. There is no definitive release date but according to some developers and leaks, GTA VI might arrive sometime in 2024. 

What We Want

1. Adversary Modes

One of the biggest downsides of upgrading to GTA V on next-generation consoles was the removal of almost all adversary modes. My friends and I loved playing a lot of different adversary modes but now there are only around seven left. GTA VI must have all the incredibly fun adversary modes such as Hunting Pack, Sumo, Offense vs Defense, Running Back, Slasher, and Inch by Inch. Besides the great modes Rockstar has already created, hopefully they will add in new ones that can one day become fan favorites. I have spent hours upon hours playing the different adversary modes in lobbies of four to ten friends, so please, Rockstar, more fun game modes.

2. A More Interactive Map

The GTA V map was huge and that was awesome as there was always somewhere to drive or visit. However, a lot of the buildings were not interactive, so it felt as if gamers could drive everywhere but not do everything. GTA VI should allow players to go into more interior locations throughout the map which will add to the realism and immersion of the game. GTA VI should also have more interactive activities for players to do like the Casino, golf courses, and clubs in GTA V. Finally, players want more destructible environments which once again means an increase in map interaction and overall immersion in the crazy world that is GTA.

3. A New Combat System 

A new combat system is a smaller desire, but I think it would make the overall gaming experience a lot better. The fighting system in GTA V is pretty clunky and leaves a lot to be desired. If the fighting system were to be redone and allowed players more control of the specific moves and strikes, I think that would be great. This would have multiple benefits as better fighting mechanics would help gamers on tough missions and jobs. Also, friends and online players would not always have to get into gun fights but rather go toe-to-toe with a fun updated hand-to-hand combat system.

There is no doubt GTA VI will be a monstrous game that will change the landscape of video games. Ultimately, this is what fans know so far about Grand Theft Auto VI and these were some things we hope to see in the next game.
