Grand Central Station is more than a station
Grand Central Station is the hub for New York City newcomers. With 750,000 visitors a day, ranging from Spring Valley to White Plains, Grand Central Station is where everyone comes before venturing into the city. As seen in movies such as “Madagascar,” the iconic “Gossip Girl,” introduction scene and more, Grand Central is known for being the most convenient and busy transportation spot. However, Grand Central is more than just a train stop, it’s also a place to buy groceries at the Grand Central Market!
When you explore station beyond the trains, you will find a cafeteria in the basement. There are many staple NYC joints for tourists to get their first taste of New York City: Shake Shack, Magnolia Bakery and more. However, there’s more food when you walk down from the main hub on the first floor.
Sectioned off the station facing 43rd Street sits a quaint market, home to many cuisines. These markets offer a variety of Italian, Japanese and other cuisines. Most of them don’t specifically serve hot and fresh meals and instead have fresh ingredients and pre-made dishes; you can find fresh latkes, marinara sauce and smoked meats. These delights can add spice to any dish you make at home, as they give a homemade zest with a punch of flavor, amplifying any meal!
If you ever find yourself near Grand Central around 7:30 PM, visit the market’s sushi spot called Pescatore, and buy some end-of-day sale sushi! This delicious and fresh sushi made at the counter goes half off before closing, ensuring its freshness won’t go to waste. This is my all-time favorite treat when passing by the station. After all, it’s a cheap and easy snack that satisfies any umami craving!
