Per release, Gonzaga Basketball wing Steele Venters will miss the 2024-25 college basketball season due to an Achilles injury. The official report out of Spokane reads:
“Gonzaga’s Steele Venters suffered a left Achilles tendon injury and will miss the 2024-25 season.
‘We are heartbroken for Steele,’ GU Head Coach Mark Few said. ‘ He was working so hard to come back from his knee injury. We will continue to support Steele through his healing process and know he will come back better and stronger.'”
Venters was named the 2022-23 Big Sky Player of the Year in his junior season at Eastern Washington after averaging 15.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 45.7% from the field and 37.1% from three. The career 40.3% three-point marksman then transferred to Gonzaga, but missed the 2023-24 campaign after tearing the ACL in his right knee. He will now tragically miss a second consecutive year after this latest injury.
Last season, Gonzaga posted a 27-8 record overall and 14-2 mark in WCC play. The Bulldogs finished as the runners-up to Saint Mary’s for both the WCC regular season and WCC tournament crowns, but did reach the program’s ninth consecutive Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament before falling to eventual national runner-up Purdue.
Despite the unfortunate loss of Steele Venters, head coach Mark Few will take a deep, experienced Gonzaga squad into this upcoming season. The Zags return key contributors in Ryan Nembhard, Nolan Hickman, Graham Ike, Ben Gregg, and Braden Huff. With Khalif Battle (Temple) and Michael Ajayi (Pepperdine) entering the fold via transfer, Gonzaga Basketball is poised for yet another successful year.
