In 2017 Jadon Sancho took a gamble on himself after a contract dispute with Manchester City. Instead of just idly standing by waiting on a chance and getting no guarantees of first team football he decided to up and move to Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga. Instantly he was given a chance and over the last 3 years has grown into a player coveted by all the top Premier League teams. Angel Gomes is hoping for something similar after deciding to walk away from Manchester United.
Gomes made his debut for United in 2017 at the age of 16 coming on as a sub and great things were expected. However his progression has stumbled and he has had to watch as the likes of Scott McTominay, Brendan Williams and Mason Greenwood all leapfrogged him into the first team. Now it looks like he will try his luck elsewhere.
Rumors are circulating that the likes of Paris St Germain, Barcelona and Chelsea are interested in acquiring the young English midfielder’s talents although Frank Lampard came out on Tuesday and categorically denied it saying “I can elaborate to the point that it’s never been mentioned at my end, so that’s it.” Then you look at Barcelona and PSG and you wonder if Gomes can’t get into United’s attack how would he replace the likes of Messi and Greizmann at Barcelona or Mbappe at PSG.
The best move for Gomes right now would be to follow Sancho’s blueprint and go to a side willing to play you despite not being one of the world elite. That gives you the opportunity to rebuild your brand and then look for a move to one of the elites in a few years.

For Gomes, he has to stay positive. Players have done this before and had it work out. Sancho as mentioned is one but also Paul Pogba who left United for Juventus where he flourished. The most important thing now is that he gets good advice and chooses the right move because another wrong move and his promising career could be slowly dying.
