No, you did not read that wrong. The decrepit Eli Manning who can’t play anymore is still in the New York Giants plans. Not just in 2019. No, No, No, the word is Eli is coming back in 2020 too. Manning’s contract expires after 2019 but apparently, there is
Ralph Vacchiano of SNY had the following:
“Yes, really. The key people in the organization don’t think he’s done, and they feel they saw a ton of positive signs in the second half last year. Ideally, they’ll have his successor ready to go next season. But if not, barring a disaster of a season, they won’t hesitate to extend Manning’s contract by a year. They really do want him around to rub off on the next Giants franchise quarterback, if they can make it work.”
There are just some things in life that I do not understand. The Giants infatuation with Eli Manning is one of them. It makes no sense. Think about how fast the Colts moved off Peyton Manning (who is significantly better than his brother) when they had the chance to draft Andrew Luck. The Giants have essentially punted on trying to find their future quarterback for the past 5 years despite the fact that Eli hasn’t won a playoff game since 2011. He’s been washed for a very long time.
I’m not even trying to be mean but there just has to be something wrong with Giants gm, Dave Gettleman. There’s just no way he can cross the street by himself. This guy has serious issues.
