The New York Giants fear starting quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a torn ACL in the team’s 30-6 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, according to NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
The Giants’ game against the Raiders was Jones’ return from a neck injury; however, it looks like he will be sidelined once again. After already missing three games because of health, Jones may be out for the remainder of the season.
In Jones’ absence, third-string quarterback Tommy Devito became the signal caller. The rookie out of Syracuse went 15 for 20 with 175 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
Tyrod Taylor, the Giants’ backup quarterback, entered the game on Injured Reserve after suffering a rib injury while playing in relief of Jones last week.
If Jones is ruled out for the remainder of the year, he will finish the year with 884 yards, two touchdowns, and six interceptions.
The loss of Jones comes shortly after New York waived the white flag on the season and dealt defensive tackle Leonard Williams.
The Giants 2023 season has been abysmal. New York sports a 2-6 record which is one of the worst in the NFL.
At this point, it seems unlikely Jones will ever start for New York again. The 2019 first-round pick has disappointed since signing his $160 million contract extension. In conjunction, if the Giants’ struggles continue, they will be in a prime position to draft a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft.
It does not look like the Giants’ future will change anytime soon. In Week 10, they will head to Dallas to play the Cowboys.
