Georginio Wijnaldum to link up with Koeman at Barcelona

The current Premier League Champions Liverpool could be about to lose a major part of their success over the previous two years as midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum looks to be on his way to Barcelona. Despite the Spanish club being a complete dumpster fire right now, the midfielder is coming into the last year of his contract and is eager to link up with manager Ronald Koeman again after working with him for the Dutch National team.

According to the Spanish publication Diario Sport, Wijnaldum has already agreed terms on a three year deal with the Catalan club with a few of between £13 and £18 million being negotiated between the two clubs.
Wijnaldum joined Liverpool in 2016 for £24 million from Premier League rivals Newcastle United and has helped Liverpool win the Premier League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup during his four years at the club. However, his contract is due to expire next summer and he has stalled on a new deal.

Barcelona fans will be hoping the deal works out better than the last player who came their way via Merseyside, Philippe Coutinho. The attacking midfielder failed to stamp his authority at the Nou Camp and found himself out on loan at Bundesliga’s Bayern Munich. He did score twice against his parent club in that now-infamous 8-2 Champions League trashing last month, however.

New Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman is a known fan of Georginio Wijnaldum and has apparently given the green light for the move to take place as he sees the midfielder as a complete player that could help him in a number of different positions. While Liverpool might not want to sell they will also not want to lose the midfielder for nothing next summer and at nearly 30 years old this may be the perfect time to recoup some of the money spent to pry him away from Newcastle in 2016.
