When news broke that Georgia quarterback Carson Beck was entering the transfer portal, many were left stunned by the move. The plan was for him to enter the 2025 NFL Draft, but he decided to stay in school and utilize his final year of eligibility. However, his play this season, likely compounded by his elbow surgery, has led him to stay. After a brief stint in the portal, Matt Zenitz of 247sports.com is reporting that Beck will be transferring to Miami for the 2025 season.
This is a massive get for head coach Mario Cristobal, but I feel obligated to caution Hurricanes fans. On the one hand, Beck was the preemptive top quarterback in the country entering the season but struggled quite a bit this season (Georgia leading the country in drops certainly played a part in that). While I do believe he has it in him to rebound and showcase the skills that made him a top prospect, I don’t want people to think he’s going to replicate what Cam Ward did this season. These are two totally different quarterbacks, and expecting Beck to replicate what Ward did is a recipe for failure.
Carson Beck going to Miami is a win-win for both parties involved. Miami had no clear path forward at the quarterback position with Cam Ward leaving for the NFL, and Beck lands in a fresh system where he can re-build his draft stock. The Jacksonville, Florida-born Beck returns to his home state for one final season, seeking to build himself back up and potentially lead Miami to their first National Championship since 2001.
