Georges St-Pierre is returning to combat sports. The UFC legend will compete at a UFC Fight Pass Invitational 6 on Dec. 14. The news was made public in a special announcement from the UFC.
St-Pierre will compete in a no-gi jiu-jitsu match. The opponent has yet to be revealed at this time. Although, there are rumors that St-Pierre will compete against another well-known MMA fighter.
St-Pierre, 42, last fought in MMA in 2017. In that bout, he won the UFC middleweight championship against Michael Bisping. Not to mention, he was the long-time welterweight champion before competing at middleweight.
Despite being retired, St-Pierre has been actively training and remains in great shape.
“I felt at the end when I retired, I was training, but I needed something,” St-Pierre said during the announcement. “I liked the kick of competition, I’d like to get it back, and I’d like to feel the adrenaline again. It’s also an avenue from fighters who still want to compete and make money and have fun with the fans and the family of the UFC.”
The UFC has been getting more involved in the submission grappling business as of late. The UFC Fight Pass Invitational series on UFC Fight Pass has been steadily growing. Most recently, at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 4, the card featured credentialed BJJ practitioners and recognizable MMA fighters. This included Glover Teixeira, Anthony Smith, Craig Jones and more.
The return of St-Pierre will certainly help get eyes on UFC Fight Pass Invitational.
All that is left to figure out is who St-Pierre will compete against. Hopefully, the UFC legend gets a match against a fellow legend, so maybe the UFC can finally book a bout between St-Pierre and Anderson Silva.
