George Kittle signs record-setting extension with 49ers
San Francisco 49ers pass catcher George Kittle just became the highest-paid TE in NFL History. The 6-foot-4 target officially signed a four-year, $76.4 million deal with $40 million in total guarantees, he told the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast with Will Compton and Taylor Lewan.
The guarantees will be $35 million at signing, with a $5 million guarantee in 2027.
Kittle’s brand-new deal is a smidge above Trey McBride‘s $76 million extension with the Cardinals, which he signed earlier this month. According to Spotrac, Kittle’s cap hit for 2025 will be $22.0 million with a $14.4 million base salary. Though the cap hits for the next three seasons will be $6.6M, $4.6M and $2.4M, respectively. That’s extra flexibility–could a Brock Purdy extension be on the way?!
Anyway, the six-time Pro Bowler has long been lauded as one of the best tight ends in the NFL not only because of his pass-catching capabilities, but because of his blocking in the run game.
In 2024, Kittle, 31, hauled in 78 catches for 1,106 yards and eight touchdowns. His receiving yards and touchdowns were the second-highest marks of his career, while his catches were the third-highest. Over his eight-year career, the two-time All-Pro has amassed 538 catches, 7,380 yards and 45 touchdowns.
He is expected to have a bigger role in 2025, now that the 49ers parted ways with Deebo Samuel, who was their Swiss army knife. I expect Ricky Pearsall to have an enlarged role in the offense, but Brock Purdy‘s going to shoulder more on Brandon Aiyuk and Kittle, assuming they’re both healthy.
