What’s that next Geno Smith contract going to look like? It’s going to be a fascinating storyline to follow as Smith hits free agency looking for his first real life changing quarterback contract. Not that Smith hasn’t been paid in the past. He’s just in line for a much LARGER pay day after guiding the unlikely Seahawks back to the postseason.
The Seahawks may have lost to the 49ers for a third time this season. However, it’s still viewed as a success in Seattle. Geno revived his career and Seattle drafted a number of young players to build a future contender around. Who knows if Geno will be back but he has no desire to leave.
“I want to finish my career in Seattle,” Smith said after the Seahawks’ 41-23 wild-card loss to the San Francisco 49ers, according to Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune.
He added: “They embraced me. I want to repay them for that.”
What kind of contract are we looking at here for Geno Smith? Is Seattle comfortable placing the exclusive tag on Geno that could be worth upwards of $45 million? That would be a hard pass for me, but Geno certainly has some leverage here. He’s played his way towards franchise quarterback money.
Smith, 32, led the NFL in completion percentage (69.8%) during the regular season. The former West Virginia product also posted a 30-11 TD to INT ratio along with 4,282 passing yards. Geno never wrote back to the haters. What a year it was.
