Garrett Wilson Unsure About Staying With Jets?
Garrett Wilson is one of the few bright spots on a Jets team that is a total disaster. Except for the part where he might not be on the Jets much longer. After a horrible 4-12 season, Wilson seems to be unsure about if he wants to stay in New York long term.
“I don’t know, man,” Wilson, a 2022 first-round pick, said, via Rich Cimini of ESPN. “I just go about my day. Wherever my feet are at. If they [extend my contract], that would be a blessing. It would be awesome. I love the Jets. At the end of the day, they were the ones that believed in me. But, yeah, I can’t be worrying about that. I have to go out and finish these three games the right way.”
Cimini reports that a source “wouldn’t be surprised if Wilson asks for a trade” in the offseason.
Wilson, 24, is signed through 2026 as the Jets hold his 5th-year option for that season. Although, he is eligible for a contract extension after the conclusion of this season so the noise will start right away this offseason.
If the former Ohio State product does request a trade, would anybody be surprised given the mess that happened this season? Maybe this depends on if Aaron Rodgers returns or not. Either way, the Jets may want to think about dealing Wilson. He sure would go a long way to collecting draft capital so that they can rebuild this puppy the right way.
