‘Game of Thrones’ Spinoffs Put on Hold Due to Writers’ Strike

HBO’s biggest franchise is now as frozen as the White Walkers. As the Hollywood writers’ strike continues, the network’s Game of Thrones spinoffs are now being put on hold. Still, that doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing any more of Westeros for a while. In fact, it’s quite the opposite.

The Status of House of the Dragon

George R.R. Martin, the famed writer, creator and producer of the A Song of Ice and Fire books, Game of Thrones TV show and the spinoffs, posted on his blog about the writers’ strike and how it is affecting the current shows. Martin made note of not just House of the Dragon and other shows, but also his other works like Dark Winds.

The good news for House of the Dragon fans is that the writing for the second season was finished months ago. Filming has begun in Britain and won’t be affected by the strikes. However, the release of the third season — if or when that comes around — will be affected by the strike, assuming that the strike lasts that long.

Work on ‘Blade’ halts due to Writer’s Strike

The Status of the Hedge Knight

As for fans looking forward to the other spinoff show HBO announced last month, the strike has already halted work on it. Continued work on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will have to wait until after the strike has concluded.

But despite these setbacks, Martin has expressed his whole-hearted support of the strike and wishes writers the best, citing his own efforts in the picket line back in the 1980s.

When Will Westeros Return?

Production on future ASoIaF content won’t pick back up until the strike is concluded — which might not be for a while. As Martin himself said on his blog post, “The issues are more important, and I have never seen the Guild so united as it is now.”
