Class of 2022 four-star wing Kamari Lands has committed to Louisville, per an announcement on his Twitter page on Saturday.
Lands chose the Cardinals over other finalist Arizona State, while also fielding offers from Kansas, Memphis, Syracuse and Xavier. The Hillcrest Prep (Ariz.) product was originally pledged to Syracuse before decommitting in August 2021. Lands is the No. 48-ranked player in the 2022 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.
In an interview with 247Sports, Lands said the transparency of the Louisville coaching staff and the proximity to home made the Cardinals the perfect fit.
“It was all of the coaches who recruited me really. They were genuine in what they were talking about and weren’t just trying to feed me stories. I’ve also known the head coach [Chris Mack] for a while since he was at Xavier, he coached some players that I know that are older than me.”

“It was close to home, and I feel like that was really important to me and my family right now. Also, I feel like I wanted to connect with the coaches before I got there, and I feel like I could do that when I talked to them. They were real genuine and I fit in really well in the offense. They have a really spaced-out system where you can make decisions so all that together made it feel like it was the best place for me.”

This tape is from Lands’ junior season, so it’s a bit outdated, but it’s a good benchmark for his evaluation as a prospect. The newest Louisville commit stands 6-foot-8 and weighs 195 pounds, showing good length for a projected ACC wing. Lands can really score the ball, evident by his 33.9 ppg average for 14-1 Hillcrest Prep. He also is averaging 10.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.6 steals and 2.3 blocks per game, according to MaxPreps.
Lands is not shy about shooting the ball and is a true threat from distance. He can be an immediate offensive sparkplug for Mack and the Cardinals next season. His playmaking and shot creation can improve, but truthfully, you can say that for nearly every teenage prospect. He isn’t flashy with his dribbling, but he gets to his spots on the floor. Ultimately, his shooting, length and athleticism will pay dividends at the next level in a prototypical wing/slasher role for Louisville.
