The NFL community has sadly lost one of its own again. After being held on life support for multiple days following a horrific construction accident, former NFL wide receiver Mike Williams has sadly passed away at 36-years-old, according to multiple reports Tuesday.
Williams, a fourth-round draft pick out of Syracuse, played five seasons in the NFL from 2010 to 2014. Williams was most notably known for being a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the first four years he played in the league. After that, the Buffalo, N.Y., native, spent time playing for his hometown team; the Buffalo Bills.
During his time in the league, Williams racked up over 220 receptions, 3,089 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns. He would play 63 total regular season games. Although Williams was never a part of the 1,000-yard receiving yard club, he almost joined it in 2010 and 2012 with the Buccaneers. He reached 996 and 964 yards, respectively, in two out of his first three seasons.
The Buccaneers released a statement regarding the passing of their former receiver.
“We are saddened to hear the untimely death of Mike Williams, which has left our organization, his former teammates and fans with heavy heart. We send our deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones as they mourn this tragedy.”
Williams will certainly be missed all over the NFL community. I will send my prayers to everyone in his life. May he rest in peace.
The Buccaneers started off their 2023 season with a 20-17 underdog win over the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday. On Sept. 17, they look to continue their early season success against the Chicago Bears at home at 1:00 p.m. ET.
