Former California RB Jaydn Ott Transfers To Oklahoma

Jaydn Ott hit the transfer portal earlier this week, and after one day on the market, he has transferred to Oklahoma.

Ott was the No. 50 overall transfer and the third-ranked running back in the portal according to 247Sports.com. He was touted as one of the more exciting running backs last year, but struggled throughout the season.

He finished with 385 rushing yards, 222 receiving yards and five combined touchdowns. He dealt with injuries throughout the year, missing multiple games. However, Ott hopes to return to glory next season with a change of scenery.

Ott is a 6-foot, 210-pound running back from Chino, Calif. He stayed close to home, playing for California, having a great freshman season with over 1,000 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns. Furthermore, he broke out in his sophomore season, totaling 1,501 yards from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns.

He also took some reps as a kick returner and returned a 100-yard touchdown in one of his first attempts. That level of production is what Oklahoma is hoping they are getting in Ott’s senior season. His impressive vision and acceleration will allow him to make a great first impression in Norman.

I wanted Ott to play all four years at California, but the team would likely regress with quarterback Fernando Mendoza transferring to Indiana this offseason. However, I think Oklahoma is a good spot for Ott because it will allow him to play competitive football and he will have a lot more eyes on him in the SEC.

Also, Oklahoma got Washington State transfer John Mateer earlier this offseason. The Oklahoma offense is starting to come together. This is a good sign for head coach Brent Venables, who could be on the hot seat if he delivers another disappointing season. Ultimately, Jaydn Ott will have a chance to cap off a great college career and boost his NFL draft stock as an Oklahoma Sooner in his senior season.
