Five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola has announced that he will no longer be playing football at Ohio State. Raiola, who’s ranked as the No. 1 prospect across all four major recruiting services for the class of 2024, committed to the Buckeyes back in May. This certainly comes as bad news for Ohio State fans who have been celebrating a College Football Playoff berth.
It seemed like Raiola was set to be another impressive name added to the list of talent head coach Ryan Day has been able to bring to Columbus, Ohio. He seemed to really gel with the coaching staff and players and seemed set on attending Ohio State.
“Ohio State is the best program for me to be successful,” Raiola told On3 after his commitment. “They are very transparent. The coaches are going to take care of me. The brotherhood is tight. The academics there are great. Everyone is strong there and for one another.”

His decision may have been influenced by Ohio State recently bringing in four-star quarterback Lincoln Kienholz, who likely make his case to be the starter under center next season. Perhaps Raiola didn’t want to deal with a potential quarterback battle and lose playing time.
Another contributing factor in Raiola’s decommitment may have been watching his future team get demolished by their rival Michigan this year. Now, this most likely wasn’t a very big factor, but it certainly couldn’t have helped.
The question now becomes where Dylan Raiola will go. The most likely answer right now seems to be Nebraska. They have been making a heavy push for him for quite some time and have a connection with the Raiola family. Raiola’s father played at Nebraska for four years where he was a consensus All-America and winner of the Rimington Trophy, which is given to the best center in college football.
Nevertheless, Ohio State still has a shot to land the top recruit. While Texas and Georgia are also in the mix, at this point, Nebraska seems like the top choice. This would definitely be a surprising move seeing as the Cornhuskers haven’t been relevant in what’s felt like over a decade.
But maybe Raiola can be the breath of fresh air Nebraska needs. Matt Rhule is set to take over and has a history of success in building programs at the collegiate level. And maybe the two of them together can put Nebraska football back on the map.
