It seems that the Fast & Furious franchise won’t be running out of road any time soon. With the latest installment of the franchise, Fast X, set to release on May 19; actor and actress Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez have hinted that Fast X is just the beginning of a “final” trilogy.
“Going into making this movie, the studio had asked if this could be a two-parter,” Diesel said. “After the studio saw this part one, they said, ‘Could you make Fast X, the finale, a trilogy?'”
Neither the actor nor actress would confirm if their comments were true or not.
Meanwhile studio Universal has kept quiet on the matter, a sign of something or a sign of nothing? Either way, the studio seems to be more invested right now with the release of Fast X to give any information on these comments.
For now, it seems the original plan of having only two movies left, Fast X and an untitled sequel in 2025, is to remain in place. But perhaps there might yet be another movie after this unnamed sequel.
The Fast & Furious franchise, while not necessarily prided itself on, has embraced its role as a ludicrous, yet entertaining, series of films. That’s a trademark that is almost certain to be present in the upcoming Fast X and its sequel, and even the possible sequel after that, assuming Rodriguez and Vin Diesel’s comments were accurate.
But we’ll have to see just what happens. Nothing has ever been set in stone with this franchise, so we might just see a 12th installment in the Fast & Furious franchise after all.
