The Lightning may have overpaid for Tanner Jeannot but none of that matters from a fantasy perspective. We’re talking about fantasy! Not a game… fantasy! If you want the full trade package post, make sure to read Bagdonas’ post as well.
Early indications are that Jeannot will be slotted on the third line paired with Nick Paul and Ross Colton. Playing for Tampa is very advantageous from a fantasy perspective. However, it’s fair to question what kind of scoring output we can expect on a bottom six and penalty killing role.
Jeannot, 25, is somehow owned in 53% of ESPN fantasy leagues at the moment. That’s while averaging 1.5 fantasy points per game. Anything less than a 2.0 mark shouldn’t make your roster. To keep a positive train of thought, Jeannot will present a high floor with his ability to block shots and lay hits. If you’re looking for someone to not put up a zero, Jeannot can do that for you.
I advised fantasy managers to do this with Ryan O’Reilly, but I actually feel much better about his chances of fantasy success compared to Jeannot. The opportunities to skate with Stamkos, Kucherov, and Point simply won’t be there limiting fantasy upside. If you’re holding onto Jeannot, find an advantageous trade partner. In reality, Jeannot shouldn’t be anything more than a daily streaming target.
There is a pathway for me to be proven wrong. He will just have to score at the 41 point pace he was a year ago. Maybe that’s in the cards but I’d much rather own Anthony Cirelli and or Brandon Hagel from this Tampa roster.
