The Ravens struck a deal with Carolina to land Diontae Johnson. You know why you’re here. It’s been a long day and I’m so done with intro paragraphs so let’s just get to the fantasy football implications of this deal.
Johnson, 28, has 30 receptions for 357 yards and three scores through seven games. While the landing spot on paper feels like an improvement over the disasterclass in Carolina, I just can’t help but be cautious here.
There are so many mouths to feed here. That’s not including the beast in the backfield where there’s a direct correlation between wins and losses if Derrick Henry doesn’t get the ball enough. It’s Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, AND two tight ends. Good luck figuring out the pop weeks in a lineup league. Outside of being a depth piece on a best ball team, I truly don’t see a ton of value here.
Honestly… I think the Carolina part of this is the most intriguing thing to talk about. Yes, it’s a mess right now but they’re constantly trailing and will be throwing the ball a ton. Xavier Legette becomes interesting in deep leagues. undrafted Jalen Coker appears to be the secondary target in the offense now. Jonathan Mingo just can’t figure it out so regardless of the trade, it’s probably time to give up on him either way. Not that you’re rushing to go add any of those players but it’s worth maybe monitoring to see where things progress from here.
