Fantasy Football: Packers Sign Josh Jacobs

I’m not sure anybody saw this one coming but fantasy football managers only get to play with the cards they are dealt. Josh Jacobs has signed with the Packers… but what does it all mean in terms of fantasy? The title speaks for itself so let’s talk about it.

The Aaron Jones question mark still needs to be answered. It’s hard to know how to proceed right now but that should be cleared up by the time the season starts. It’s all contract related and who knows how that shakes out. If Jones is still on the roster Week 1, Jacobs definitely gets a stock down.

That more than anything is what matters. Aaron Jones is good at football and he’s not just going to be put out to pasture. I’d be very surprised if that happens, anyway. Jones averaged 4.6 yards per carry and was dealing with injuries last year. If healthy, he’s going to take a massive chunk out of the workload and it’s probably by design. If anything, Jones might be major steal. Especially in best ball leagues.

There are just so many questions we don’t have the answers to. In the past, Jones has had a strong nose for the end zone. I’m still very thankful for his 2019 season when he scored 16 rushing touchdowns. That guy still exists. However, he’s only got four in the last two years.

Will Jacobs be the hammer on the goal line or will it be a true split? Who knows but I’d guess the volume numbers are somewhat similar.

With that said, there are some positives here for Jacobs owners. For one, the scheme. Matt LaFleur has gotten his running backs to perform well using the tactics of Kyle Shanahan. It’s a solid offensive line and a young improving team that still leans on the run. Jordan Love has come a long way but he still needs help. This should be part of the formula to add more help.

Out of all of the players to sign, this one feels like the trickiest one to project right now. For me, it’s all going to depend on cost. I get investing in Jacobs but at what price? Proceed with caution but don’t over hesitate to buy.

Update:

Welp… go buy all the Jacobs stock you can.
