Gabriel Davis signed a contract with the Jaguars. Now we get to talk about what it means for fantasy football. Screw intro paragraphs. Let’s get right to the good stuff.
For starters, we still don’t know what’s going to happen with Calvin Ridley, but I’d be very surprised if he’s back. The Davis contract wasn’t exactly cheap. The Christian Kirk contract was a big time overpay. How many receivers can you possibly pay? There is already going to be a big competition for targets and it doesn’t mean the Jaguars are done adding. More could be on the way.
There are some positives. Doug Pederson loves running the ball and you can do way worse than Trevor Lawrence. That part is good. If you’re a Davis believer, you have reasons to be excited. Also, he’s 6-foot-2 and has been a red-zone weapon in the past.
The problem is he’s never really been a player you can consistently count on. It’s big performance followed up by three weeks of nothing. It’s the same story over and over again. If he’s a best ball player maybe this is something you consider. Figuring out when to start him? Yeah… good luck.
I’ll be honest; I don’t really see the value here. I guess it will depend on where Davis is ranked in fantasy but I’m out. Fantasy football is part talent and part opportunity. At the end of the day, does either angle make you excited? I’m sharing targets with Christian Kirk and Zay Jones. On top of that, Davis isn’t even good. The guy never established himself as the number two in Buffalo with an elite quarterback. What makes people think he can do so in Jacksonville? For a guy that’s never had a 1,000 yard season, I’ll believe it when I see it. I’ll pass here in terms of fantasy football.
