Ex-WWE talent see AEW as a ‘step down’ – Reports

It’s certainly an exciting time to be a wrestling fan as both WWE and AEW have made history, broken records and entertained millions of people all over the world. But according to recent reports, some All Elite Wrestling talents still see World Wrestling Entertainment as the ‘major leagues.’

Since the company was founded in 2019, AEW has played host to some of the best wrestlers in the world, with a number of those stars having already enjoyed a lot of success in WWE. The likes of Jon Moxley, Chris Jericho and CM Punk have all enjoyed reigns as World Champion in All Elite Wrestling; Adam Cole and Bryan Danielson are almost unrecognisable from their time in World Wrestling Entertainment, and veterans like Christian Cage, Sting and Billy Gunn have all been given the chance to do some of the best work of their careers in AEW.

But it appears that not everyone who jumped ship from WWE to AEW feels that way. According to Dave Meltzer in the most recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there is a feeling among some former WWE talents that joining All Elite Wrestling was a “step down,” and that they can’t wait to go back to where they came from.

“A lot of ex-WWE talent went to AEW and saw it as a step down, and even though some of them have been pushed, they haven’t really helped the company although they still may,” Meltzer wrote. “But there are several that you get the impression that they can’t wait to get back to WWE, see it as the major league, if they can get an offer when their AEW deal expires. And some asked for releases last year after Vince McMahon “retired” and Paul Levesque garnered a stronger role.”

Both AEW and WWE will be able to prove why they are the top wrestling company in North America this weekend! On Sept. 30, WWE’s NXT brand will host their “No Mercy” event at the Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield, Cali., while All Elite Wrestling will host the first-ever WrestleDream event at the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Wash., on Oct. 1st.
