Erling Haaland is going to break all the scoring records this season

Since joining Manchester City in May, Erling Haaland has been scoring goals with ease and appears set to break multiple goal-scoring records.

In a mere 12 matches for City, Haaland has scored 19 goals, including three hat tricks in the Premier League. Boasting the trio of hat tricks, Haaland has tallied 14 goals in eight EPL games. That puts him on pace to finish with 66 goals in the 2022-23 season.

Such a mark in one season would be insane to see and it would shatter the Premier League’s current single-season goal record of 34 goals set by Andy Cole of Newcastle United in 1993-94 and Alan Shearer for Blackburn Rovers during the 1994-95 season. Both of those players scored their goals when it was a 42-match season compared to the 38-match season we now see.

Since the Premier League switched to a 38-match season, the goal-scoring record is held by Mohamed Salah when he scored 32 goals in the 2017-18 EPL season for Liverpool.

There were questions surrounding Haaland’s move to Manchester City, notably how he would fare against some of the world’s best defenders, but those critics are silent now.

At his current rate of 1.75 goals per game in the Premier League, Haaland would break Cole and Shearer’s record in only 20 matches.

Needing only 20 more goals to tie the record, it seems very likely that Haaland will see his name atop the record books when the season is over. Especially since he will be getting a six-week break for the 2022 World Cup which Norway did not qualify for.

The best goalscorer in the world in 2022 does not need any time to recover and take a break from the sport, but he will be getting it. Expect a ferocious and fresh Haaland to return when the Premier League does on Dec. 26.

It is not only in the Premier League that Haaland is chasing records. City is one of the favorites to win the UEFA Champions League, and through three group-stage matches, Haaland has already scored five times.

The current record for most goals in a Champions League season is 17, a mark set by Cristiano Ronaldo during Real Madrid’s title-winning run in 2013-14. Twice in this year’s campaign, Haaland has scored multiple goals. It also helps to have one of the best passers in the world in Kevin de Bruyne setting the ball on a plate for him so well that you and I could score.

As long as Manchester City makes a deep run and does not choke their chance away it is very possible that Ronaldo’s 10-year record will fall to the Norwegian striker.

What makes all of the goals more impressive is the ease that he is scoring with. It seems like no defense has an answer for the 6-foot-5 22-year-old, who uses his strength and speed to cause nightmares for defenders.

Haaland is scoring at such a scary rate that fans in England are doubting that he is even human. A petition has been started to have Haaland kicked out of the Premier League under suspicion that he is in fact a robot and not human. Even though it started as a joke the petition has reached over 1.8 million signatures.

One more goal-scoring record that Haaland could potentially break this season is the total goals across all competitions in a single season. That record is held by none other than Lionel Messi when he scored a whopping 73 goals during the 2011-12 season. It may be a stretch but if any player is going to break that record it’s going to be Haaland.

Everywhere that Haaland has gone, goals have followed. At Red Bull Salzburg he scored 17 goals in 16 matches. Then, at Borussia Dortmund, he was just shy of a goal per game finishing his stint in Germany with 62 goals in 67 matches. Now at Manchester City, Haaland has scored in every game except two, the Community Shield against Liverpool which was his first match, and the club’s second EPL match against Bournemouth which he instead had an assist.

Anytime that a player is competing with the likes of Lionel Messi and Ronaldo for records tells that there is something special on hand and Haaland is just that. Only 22, it would not be a surprise if we see the name Erling Haaland at the top of all the goalscoring records by the time he retires.
