Eric Tulsky Is Proof Pro Sports Teams Need To Stop Hiring Nerds

There is a major trend across all professional sports and it really needs to end. For some reason, professional sports owners think that if they hire nerds to run their organization, it will put them in the best spot to succeed and it never ever works. Do me a favor, name one nerd who is a GM who is successful. I’ll wait while you come up with a list of zero. Eric Tulsky is the epitome of this and this asinine trend needs to end now.

Think I’m wrong? Do me a favor… watch this video and then feel free to comment where I’m wrong. I dare you.

If I was the Carolina Hurricanes owner and I listened to this, I would fire Tulsky on the spot.

Where do I even start?

The guy literally admitted to poor planning as the reason why Jake Guentzel left.

He also admitted to trading for Mikko Rantanen without having any communication with their camp on an extension.

He also admitted to trying to pitch Rantanen to stay. A pitch that included the team’s “prospect pool”. I’m sorry but only a nerd who doesn’t have a clue would think a prospect pool would be something a superstar player uses as a decided factor if they want to stay in a location.

They also poured gasoline all over this situation and gave the player no reason to consider staying. The flipping rumors started pretty much as soon as the trade went down. Carolina signed their own death wish as soon as those rumors started and never quieted down.

Furthermore, just listen to the guy speak! That’s not a leader. That’s a nerd who clearly doesn’t have any idea on culture or second-order thinking.

When people tell you who they are, believe them. The more time goes on, the more the Carolina Hurricanes continue to establish that they are essentially a small market baseball team. Nothing more, nothing less and it all stems from poor leadership.

This is what you get when you hire nerds. No accountability for their failures. The chart told them to take the swing and it didn’t work so blame the chart. Wash, rinse, and repeat.

Choices have consequences and when you go down the route of the nerds, this is what you get. Anybody who had the slightest clue on culture, leadership, and second order thinking would never speak the way Tulsky did in this interview.

Carolina isn’t a Stanley Cup contender. They’re a stepping stone for the real contenders and that will never change as long as this loser is running their team.
