Uh oh… the Suns are starting to fill out the remainder of their bench. It’s starting to look pretty capable too. Eric Gordon is on his way to Phoenix after signing a free agent contract with the Suns. Gordon was actually waived earlier this offseason by the Clippers after being acquired at the deadline.
Shams Charania of The Athletic was the first to report the news:
Free agent Eric Gordon has agreed to a deal with the Phoenix Suns, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Massive get for the Suns.

Shams later continued in his Tweet that the Suns beat out the Warriors and Rockets for this one. Phoenix only had minimum contracts to offer and it appears Gordon turned down larger money elsewhere. This is a total ring chasing move and nobody can blame Gordon for this one.
Gordon, 34, averaged 12.4 points and 2.7 assists last season. It’s a huge get for the Suns who have now added Yuta Watanabe, Drew Eubanks, Keita Bates-Diop and Chimezie Metu this offseason. A damn good job filling out the remainder of that bench. It’s certainly an upgrade over what the Suns had last year. That’s not even including adding Bradley Beal.
Make no mistake about it. This Suns team is way better than they were a year ago. The bench is actually functional and more importantly, the aging corpse of Chris Paul has been replaced by a real third star. Who knows, maybe a Deandre Ayton trade will even take place at some point. Even if it doesn’t, that’s not a terrible fourth option. Gordon is a great get and someone that should be able to hit shots off the bench.
