Emoni Bates Commits to Memphis Over G-League, Oregon and MSU

Emoni Bates has committed to Memphis over the G-League Ignite, Oregon and Michigan State, as first reported by Shams Charania.

Bates will join a loaded Memphis Tigers squad that also features 2021 five-star Jalen Duren. Both Duren and Bates reclassified into the 2021 class earlier this month. The duo played together on Team Final on the EYBL circuit this summer and dominated. Despite the Ypsilanti, MI native’s reclassification and commitment to Memphis, he cannot enter the 2022 NBA Draft. Bates is just 17 years old and will have to wait until 2023 to hear his name called.

Bates has long been considered one of the best basketball prospects available, and he’s been raved about since his freshman year. He is a lanky wing that can score at all three levels. While his shot selection is sometimes questionable, Bates has an uncanny ability to knock down shots that few others at his age can. His frame is likely the only other knock to his game, but he will definitely fill out and hit the weight room as his career blossoms.

Penny Hardaway is once again hitting it out of the park on the recruiting trail and has cemented himself as one of the best, if not the best, recruiter in the college basketball game currently.
