Emeka Egbuka 2025 NFL Draft Profile

You don’t need me to mention the elephant in the room here. Who among these Ohio State receivers entering the NFL ranks is failing? It seems like ALL of them hit, so why won’t that be the case for Emeka Egbuka? We’re going to go over everything you need to know here, so without further ado… here is your 2025 NFL Draft profile on Egbuka!

Egbuka, 22, was a five star prospect coming out of the state of Washington. He was also the number one-ranked wide receiver during the 2021 cycle while also being the 9th player overall in the country. Egbuka spent all four of his collegiate seasons with the Buckeyes.

The timeline here sort of looks like this. Egbuka had limited production as a freshman and played a lot of special teams. The following year, as a sophomore, he burst onto the scene, posting 74 grabs for 1,151 yards and 10 scores. As a junior, Egbuka was snake-bitten by an ankle injury, and his numbers dipped big time (41 catches for 515 yards and 4 scores). Then, 2024 rolled around, and he notched 81 catches for 1,011 yards and 10 scores.

The Buckyes wide receiver looks, smells, and plays like a JSN clone. Pure slot receiver. We don’t have any Combine testing on Egbuka, but I also don’t think we need it. He’s not fast, but that’s also not how he wins. We’re looking at a smart football player who just has good feet while knowing how to get open. He also has a baseball background and you can see the pure tracking ability is on point.

I think the big thing here is that it doesn’t seem like Egbuka is a head case. He showed a ton of self-awareness this year. He never complained about targets and was totally fine with Jeremiah Smith being the guy in the spotlight while he torched people underneath. The only thing to really worry about here is the pure explosion and if that’s going to translate the way you want it to at the next level. If you read the stock report notes at the top, you will notice I think I gave myself a self-talk about 800 times going back and forth about just how good this player really is.

You’re not getting anything super physically imposing either. Egbuka checks in at 6-foot-1, 202, and doesn’t have a pure power element to his game. 81% of his routes came out of the slot, and that shouldn’t change at the next level. Not a bad blocker, though, so holds up well in that aspect. It’s more so he’s not giving you anything in YAC and his average depth of target was incredibly low. He’s not doing much down the field. 65% of his receptions this past year came under 10 yards down the field.

Given all that information, how high are you willing to go here, because to me, it’s not special enough to go round one for.

I think Emeka Egbuka is a round two-three player, but you also have to recognize what he is. This is a crafty, smart slot receiver, and if you don’t use him that way, he should probably go two rounds lower.

Comp = He looks like a spitting image of Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and while it may be helmet scouting, recruiting profiles carbon copies matter, and using any other comp here feels irresponsible.
