East Carolina Fires Head Coach Mike Houston

East Carolina is making a coaching change midseason. Mike Houston will be the first head coach fired in all of major college football after ECU parted ways. Maybe just maybe, ECU should hand the keys of the program over to me… but we’ll get to that in a bit.

Matt Zenitz over at 247 Sports was the first to report the news:

ECU has fired head coach Mike Houston, per the school.

East Carolina put out a press release on the decision as well. If you want to read that, click this link here. The presser does indicate that defensive coordinator Blake Harrell will take over as the interim coach.

Houston, 52, was hired back in 2019 but hasn’t turned this program into a winner. He’s 27-38 during his time with the Pirates but is on a serious downward spiral. ECU won just two games last year and they just got hammered by Army. Since their last Bowl appearance in 2022, ECU is just 5-14.
