Early Match Card Predictions for WrestleMania 39

WrestleMania is a two-night event and the goal for this year’s marquee PLE is to have more of a focus on quality over quantity. Triple H and Co. are planning to do more with less matches and are not concerned about showcasing everybody.

After all, WrestleMania is the show of shows and only the best of the best should ideally be featured. There are already some questionable decisions with the likes of Omos, Logan Paul, and possibly Dominik Mysterio being main features on the card.

Without much more rambling, let’s get into my early match card predictions for WrestleMania 39!

WrestleMania Night 1 Match Card Predictions

Brock Lesnar vs. Omos

The match has been confirmed over the last week of action for the WWE. It comes at an interesting time as Omos has not been featured on the regular shows for weeks now. However, his manager MVP has done the lip-service of providing much for his guy to knock off the Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar.

The expectation is this will be a fairly quick match very heavy on the signature moves side. Beast vs. Giant has a nice ring to it, but many would have preferred Omos be left off the card altogether. There were many other better booking decisions for Lesnar that could have been explored (Bray Wyatt, Austin Theory, or even Gunther).

Gunther (c) vs. Drew McIntyre for Intercontinental Championship

Gunther laid out an open challenge for his Intercontinental Championship and then it was announced there would be a 20-man Battle Royale to decide his challenger at WrestleMania. My expectation is Drew McIntyre will win this Battle Royale at an upcoming WWE live event as he has received the most hype amongst potential challengers.

It is tough to imagine a WrestleMania without the likes of McIntyre as he’s been a staple in the company since the dog days of Corona. One of the first championships McIntyre held was the Intercontinental, so it is only fitting that the once Chosen one go back to his roots.

Austin Theory (c) vs. John Cena for United States Championship

The match is all but guaranteed at this point, as WWE is desperately trying to find an angle for one of their biggest draws that is still on a limited appearance type contract. Over the last few weeks, Austin Theory has been repeatedly besmirching the name of John Cena on national television.

Cena will most definitely reveal his WrestleMania plans when he returns to Monday Night Raw in Boston. Will Cena put over a young and rising star in Theory? Is Cena going to have another reign with one of the first titles he ever had? Could we see the return of the spinning belt?

Charlotte (c) vs. Rhea Ripley for Smackdown Women’s Championship

Charlotte and Rhea Ripley have held bad blood towards each other for years. The current champion finds herself back at the top of the totem pole straight away from her return, while the challenger had to outlast 29 other women and fight her way for a chance to star at WrestleMania.

Will this be a big win for Judgement Day? Is Charlotte destined for a longer reign? Can Ripley finally get her coveted WrestleMania moment? It all remains to be seen at the grandest stage of them all.

Finn Balor vs. Edge in a Hell In A Cell Match

Finn Balor recently issued out a challenge to Edge, and months and months of the build-up of this feud makes it fitting to end in the cell. Can Edge put an end to his former group? Will this be a night of shame or great gain for the Judgement Day?

A match on the caliber of a Hell in a Cell between these two could main event either night. It is an absolute show-stealer of a contest. We also do not know how many of these moments we have left with Edge.

The Usos (c) vs. Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens

There are rumors stirring of this being the main event match for night one. WrestleMania will either make or break the Bloodline. What often goes missed is the legendary tag run, the Usos are on currently. 592 days as SmackDown Tag Champs and 287 days as Raw Tag Champs. There are no immediate plans to make brands matter again. It may take an unexpected All-Star-level tag team of Canadians to dethrone this legendary unit.

Zayn and Owens each share a common goal which is to put an end to the Bloodline. For the better part of two years, many have tried and many have fallen. Right now the former best friends are at odds, but I expect the story will bring them together again at some point. Watch closely these next few weeks as things quickly develop.

WrestleMania Night 2 Match Card Predictions

Becky Lynch, Lita, and Trish Stratus vs Damage CTRL (Bailey, IYO Sky, and Dakota Kai)

The match has not been made official yet, but WWE is notorious for having legends on the show of shows. Stratus looks like she has not lost anything when it comes to hanging in the squared circle. Lita and Becky recently defeated Damage CTRL for the Tag Team Championships. The continued bad blood feud between Becky and Bailey has intensified.

A great showcase between new school and old school. An amazing opener for Night two which could either be a chance to put Damage CTRL over as a dominant faction or a feel-good victory for the Champs and a legend.

Bobby Lashley vs. Bray Wyatt w/ Uncle Howdy

The story here was unexpected, but kind of intriguing with the Almighty vs the Eater of Worlds. I would love a Last Man Standing tag to be put as a stipulation. If Bray Wyatt is to come out of this victorious, then we need to finally reveal the identity of Uncle Howdy. The roof would blow off the place.

The other scenario is a loss at the hands of Lashley could lead to a betrayal arc from Uncle Howdy to Wyatt. Maybe all is not as glamorous as it seems in terms of their arrangement. Two crazy and psychotic forms are bound to collide and combust.

Dominik Mysterio vs. Rey Mysterio in an I-Quit Match

I-Quit matches have produced some of the best Mania moments. Father and son butting heads for months and everyone loves a family affair. This could very well be the end of the road for Mr. 619 and putting over his boy may be the way to go out.

Prison Dom surely has some mean tactics and unbridled rage against his dad. A match of this caliber could fortify Dominik as a top-tier Heel, and it would be a major win for Judgement Day. All signs point to WrestleMania 39 being a huge night for the faction.

Bianca Bel-Air (c) vs. Asuka for the Raw Women’s Championship

Asuka outlasted five other women in the Elimination Chamber earning the right to challenge the EST. Bianca is on quite of a run right now and is quickly ascending to be one of the better women’s wrestlers of the modern era.

The challenger and former Royal Rumble winner is void of her WrestleMania moment. A talent of her caliber deserves a moment to shine on the biggest stage. We very well could see a completely new WWE post-Mania.

Seth Rollins vs. Logan Paul

The collision has been brewing for months since Paul eliminated Rollins in the Royal Rumble match. Elimination Chamber, the YouTuber would show up again and cost the Architect a chance at United States gold. Will Rollins prove that Logan Paul is bad for business?

No one can deny that Logan Paul is one of the best celebs turn Wrestler stories we have ever seen. What would a major singles win do for LP at the biggest event of the year? How does the rest of the roster feel? We may be in for another upset.

Roman Reigns (c) w/ Paul Heyman vs. Cody Rhodes for Undisputed WWE Universal Championship

Rhodes to WrestleMania has been a major headline leading into the marquee show. This is a story that must be finished, but will it end with Cody bringing honor to his late father, Dusty, or does the Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns continue to operate in what he calls as “God Mode”?

The cracks in the foundation of the Bloodline are clear, but Reigns is chasing a legacy and history with his reign nearing the 1000-day threshold. Can the American Nightmare realize his American Dream? Maybe, he is just another footnote in a bigger story that may lead well into SummerSlam.

At the end of the day, only a portion of these matches are confirmed, but in one way or another, I expect these will be the Superstars featured at WrestleMania 39.
