Howie Roseman is some sort of wizard. I don’t get it. He manages to land these players one after another, and projects he takes on tend to work in his favor. Well, Adam Schefter broke the news that he is taking on another project in the form of Tackle Mekhi Becton. It is a one-year deal worth up to $5.5 million. Becton was a former first-round pick of the New York Jets back in 2020, and was a starter for the team for the majority of his tenure there.
If there is anyone who can get the most out of Mekhi Becton and find that potential he had coming out of college, it is the Philadelphia Eagles. This team is set at the tackle position with Lane Johnson and Jordan Maliata, two guys who are among the best to learn from in the league. If Becton gets into that room and just absorbs all their knowledge like a sponge, we might be able to see the Tackle who came out of Louisville with all the potential in the world. However, his tenure in New York was not kind, as he never lived up to expectations and has been plagued with knee injuries. He missed all of the 2022 season with an injury.
Maybe Mekhi Becton is a bust. Maybe he will pan out as a swing tackle at first for Philadelphia and develop into a long-term answer once Lane Johnson retires. This is the kind of low-risk, high-reward move Howie Roseman makes that might work out in his favor. He’s always pulling out stellar draft classes. Maybe he is just lucky when it comes to finding talent for his squad. Becton is only 25, so he could still turn it around and make something out of his career. I don’t think there is a better place for him to learn in the league than Philly.
