Dyson Daniels On Pelicans: ‘That Organization’s Cursed’

The move to Atlanta has done wonders for Dyson Daniels. The third year pro out of Australia is posting a career high averaging 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists while leading the league in steals (3.0). He’s been a defensive menace for the Hawks and looks like a totally different player since coming over in the Dejounte Murray trade.

So what’s behind the breakout campaign for Daniels? He believes the Pelicans are just cursed and getting out of there has been a huge benefit to him.

VIA The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer (the post comes from a Substack you’re required to pay for. We here at Vendetta Sports Media do not support paywall websites. Do not click the link. I’m required to state the source but I will give you all the information you need to know for free):

“That organization’s cursed,” Daniels told me Wednesday. “Every year there’s something new. I’m happy I’m not there anymore.”

His grin was wry. “Because of the curse?” I asked.

“Yeah,” Daniels said. “The curse, man. I had like four or five ankle injuries down there as well. There’s something down in that water down there or something. They got hamstrings. They got knees. They got concussions and stuff as well. They get everything down there. I don’t know what it is. Playing hard I guess?”

Daniels also says he’s disappointed by how he played with New Orleans and takes accountability for his time there.

“I wasn’t happy with how I played,” but he doesn’t hold the franchise — or any supernatural forces — responsible for it.”

“I don’t point fingers at anyone,” Daniels said. “I blame myself. I wasn’t consistent. My first two years I was up and down. I had great games and I had really bad games. I didn’t find that consistency and we had a lot of players in New Orleans.”

Side note: I’m still convinced that the second Zion Williamson gets out of New Orleans he will become a superstar and all of his problems will go away. Maybe that sounds crazy but when real NBA players are saying New Orleans is cursed, maybe he has a point…

Before we think about expanding the NBA… are we sure we don’t just want to move the Pelicans to Seattle?
