The Detroit Red Wings have finally signed their captain to a deal worth $69.6 million over eight years. Dylan Larkin will be earning a nice $8.7 million dollars a year. The team announced via their twitter on Larkin’s signing.
Larkin’s deal doesn’t include any signing bonus and features a no-trade clause for the first five years of it. He can name a 10 teams approved trade list in years six to eight if he wants to be traded, according to PuckPedia’s Twitter.
The Detroit Red Wings originally drafted Larkin in the 2014 NHL draft with the 15th overall selection. The Michigan native has 57 points this season in 59 games. He has scored 22 goals and added on 35 helpers for the Wings. Larkin ranks first in almost all categories for the Red Wings this season. He is first in goals, assists, points, power-play goals, power-play points, shorthanded goals, and more. He truly has been something special for the Red Wings. Larkin’s play this year has helped spike Detroit into the playoff picture.
As of right now, Detroit is a serious contender for the Stanley Cup playoffs. They’re only five points back of the stacked second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. With the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals slipping as well as the Buffalo Sabres being bitten by the injury bug, Detroit could end up in the playoffs this season.
In his career, Dylan Larkin has represented the wheel chickens three times during NHL All-Star weekend. Larkin got selected in 2016, 2022, and 2023. Detroit also named Dylan Larkin their 37th captain in franchise history on January 21st, 2021. He became the first captain in 2021 since Henrik Zetterberg in 2018.
