Anxiety is high in the Dylan Larkin household these days. Will Larkin remain with the Red Wings past the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline? As an impending free agent after the season, Larkin’s time with Detroit could be winding down. However, the Michigan native states very clearly that he sees himself as a Red Wing and thinks he will stay with the team that drafted him.
“I’ve said it all along, and I stand by it: I really see myself as a Red Wing. (But) there’s contract negotiating to be done,” he said in an interview with ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski. “This is my first time in this position as an unrestricted free agent. But I doubt contracts really ever go smoothly until they’re done.”
“It just seems people are fishing and speculating,” Larkin said Thursday. “I don’t really want my business out there. I understand we’re in the spotlight and fans want to know. They deserve to know.
“But I think it’s not really the most truthful, you know? It’s just speculation, and I don’t really read into that too much.”
HGT may not have fond memories of Larkin. However, he’s still a really good centerman any team would love to have. Larkin, 26, was offered an eight-year deal with an average annual value of $8 million which was reported by The Detroit Free Press. If that’s not enough to get a deal done, maybe Detroit does shop Larkin.
Colorado and Boston would be theoretical players for Larkin if made available. Both were in the mix for Bo Horvat prior to being traded to the Islanders.
