Dylan Cozens is locked in for the Sabres future for seven more years, according to Buffalo Sabres Twitter.
The Buffalo train is rolling. They keep one of their top young guns on the roster for seven more years: Dylan Cozens. Hop on the Buffalo train right now or get off it because this Buffalo team is going to be scary good in the next few years.
Cozens was supposed to enter restricted free agency this summer, following the expiration of his entry-level deal. His deal is worth around $50 million in total, so similar to his teammate, Tage Thompson, who just signed a deal a few months prior. Safe to say, Thompson’s deal is a steal, and it’s looking like Cozens one is as well.
The Sabres’ young center has accumulated 17 goals, 26 assists, for 43 points in 49 games this season. Safe to say, his ceiling is only getting higher for the 21-year-old. Currently, Cozens is fifth in points on the Sabres roster.
Right now, the Sabres and Cozens are in a prime position to hunt down a wild card playoff sport. They’re only two points out from the Pittsburgh Penguins who hold the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Buffalo Sabres coach Don Granato made comments on Cozens’ success this season. “I keep saying the same thing about him, it’s compete,” Granato said in December. “Just couple that with love of the game that he has, the love of the game hockey. He competes for the right reason, being in a team sport. He brings guys in with him, he drags people into the fight, per se, which is a real indicator of his leadership and leadership ability going forward.” Via Buffalo Sabres Press Release.
