Drew Doughty: “We Need To Be Better And Get Better”

Drew Doughty is pretty pissed off after the disappointing end to the regular season. In addition that this is the third straight season that the Los Angeles Kings have missed the playoffs, anyone would be upset at that. The defenseman is essentially challenging the organization to step up in the offseason, and he has a solid point.

The Kings collapsed after the trade deadline. Despite being within four points of a playoff spot in early April, the Kings went 5-10-1 following the trade deadline. That record includes losing five straight to end the season, yikes. Drew Doughty is sick of losing, and he wants change for the better.

As a team, we need to be better and get better. That’s not just on the players.

It is also clear that Doughty will be upset if the team just stays put and doesn’t make a move before training camp. Doughty is one of four players on the Kings that were around for the team’s 2012 and 2014 Stanley Cup runs. The Kings have only won a single playoff series since their last title.

With all this cap room, we’ve got to bring guys in. That’s it. There’s no point waiting for these prospects to develop when you’ve got guys in their prime that are hungry to win and sick of losing.

The Kings have the third most projected cap space, according to capfriendly.com. They’ve got the space to make some moves. The Kings finished tied for sixth place in the West Division with 49 points. Talk about an opportunity squandered.
