Doug Armstrong, the GM of the Blues, is probably viewed as a villain right now in NHL circles after he broke the unwritten rule of the league. The Oilers passed on the offer sheets the Blues sent in for Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg. Stan Bowman explained his side of the story. Armstrong said hold my beer and came over the top with a hilarious response.
“This is a tool that I think everyone uses and should use,” Armstrong said, according to NHL.com’s Lou Korac. “I think it was reported that I wouldn’t have done this to Kenny Holland. That’s the furthest thing from the truth.
“Quite honestly, I’d do it to my mother if she was managing the Oilers. My job is to take care of the St. Louis Blues fans and the St. Louis Blues organization. We saw an opportunity to do that.”
“Hey, mom… shove this offer sheet up yours”! Just so funny. By the way, I agree with him. If I were a rival GM, Jason Robertson would have gotten one from me too. Teams should use it more often. The fact that nobody does because they’re scared the rival team will get their revenge is so crazy to me.
Oh, and in terms of the unwritten rule, Armstrong said he was not given a memo on the status, which is also just so funny.
“If there is a GM code not to do offer sheets, no one emailed it to me,” Armstrong said, according to The Athletic’s Jeremy Rutherford.
Before you go, don’t click the link from The Athletic because they’re scum and also check out the recent video I did on why the Blues were smart to do this.
