Donte DiVincenzo Is No Different Than Any Other Californian

Look, Donte DiVincenzo may not be the average Californian in terms of his income, but he sure shares sentiments that resonate with the majority of the residents in the Golden State. The former Villanova Wildcat star signed a new deal with the Golden State Warriors worth over 9 million dollars for 2 years. Even as an NBA player, though, DiVincenzo is feeling the financial burden of living out in Cali.

On a recent interview with 95.7 The Game, a Bay Area sports station, DiVincenzo was being questioned on some normalcies about being an NBA player when the topic of expensive Californian rent came up. His response?

“Listen, you know, we make good money as NBA players. And all I got to say is a lot of that money is going toward rent.”

When a multi-millionaire professional athlete is airing out some stress about the cost of living in a state, you know it’s bad. If this is the condition they’re in, imagine how parents with normal salaries and kids to take care of are feeling. How about the people in even worse situations, like the single mom barely staying afloat?

I don’t want to make this an economic commentary, but the point is that living in a state like California right now is outrageous. If Donta DiVincenzo doesn’t feel great about affording it all, I can promise you almost every single one of the 40 million Californians are pretty distressed too.

If you’re going to take anything away from this post, I hope it’s that you think twice about a move to California. And if you’re there right now, I would start thinking about a way out of there. Sure it’s pretty, has job opportunities, and has nice weather. But, you know what other place is like that? Texas. Except it’s exponentially more affordable. If I was Donte DiVincenzo’s agent, I would have negotiated a move to the Dallas Mavericks or Houston Rockets. Instead the red-head wing will be emptying out his massive pockets to pay his massive rent. Don’t be like Donte.
