After Donavan Mitchell was traded to Cleveland, the NBA media needed someone new to talk about. That’s what Sam Presti is about to tell you anyway. It’s time for the Oklahoma City Thunder to start winning here soon, right? The clock is ticking on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and he can’t possibly want to keep playing for a tanking team this long.
Presti spoke to the media recently and made it clear that Gilgeous-Alexander is committed to OKC long term and that the fan base has nothing to worry about. SGA is technically under team control for five season after signing a contract extension for over $179 million. Presti knowing that obviously felt confident in this statement you’re about to read.
“Shai has made a long-term commitment here.”
“The only reason we are talking about it is because another player on another team got traded and the aggregation machine needs more content.”
I think the bigger question here is if SGA is actually healthy. That may not even be the case. SGA suffered a left MCL sprain and Presti would not confirm if he would be ready for the Opener. That was included in the NBC Sports report.
Of course, Chet Holmgren has already been ruled out for the season. It appears OKC is likely gearing up for one more tanking season in hopes to land what appears to be a generational talent in the form of Victor Wembanyama.
