Does Dolphins GM Chris Grier Have Zero Desire To Win A Super Bowl?

Sorry Jackson Law, but this has to be addressed. News broke today that the Miami Dolphins and WR Jaylen Waddle agreed to a massive extension, making him one of the highest-paid WRs in the NFL. The Miami Dolphins have locked up their track team offense for the next few years, ensuring that Defensive Coordinators lose sleep at night. The only issue is that General Manager Chris Grier severely overpaid Waddle and will likely pay the consequences down the line.

Don’t get me wrong here, I like Jaylen Waddle a lot. I had him as the WR3 in his class coming out. However, when his salary kicks in, he will be among the five highest-paid receivers in the NFL (pending guys like Chase and Jefferson getting their extensions). This Miami Dolphins team still has to pay Tua Tagovailoa soon and is already in salary cap hell. Where is this money coming from? I know to an extent the salary cap in the NFL doesn’t exist, just ask the New Orleans Saints, but this seems like poor money management.

Also, what does this say to your quarterback? Waddle still has two more controllable years left on his deal, then you could have made a decision. Instead, Chris Grier just told Tua he isn’t as important as a WR2 and paid him first. That’s a bad look.

Plus, Tyreek Hill is also getting top-of-the-market money. Let’s break down the math here. Waddle’s contract will kick in during the 2025 off-season to the tune of $19 million. Hill is making $34 million. The next season? Waddle makes $21 million compared to a jaw-dropping $56 million (contract details from Sportac.com). Yes, Hill has an out after next season but he’s getting paid-paid, why would he opt out? Chris Grier has to be better than this.

I’m sorry, but I am not convinced Chris Grier actually wants to win a Super Bowl. I’m just not. Jaylen Waddle is not a top five, top ten, or potentially top 15 receiver in the NFL, but he will now be paid among the best. On top of what was a lackluster draft class and still having not yet paid Tua, this team will have zero room for error over the coming seasons. The lack of cap space they will have is going to doom this team, and all the blame should be placed on the head of Grier.

I feel sorry for Dolphins fans, especially one of our own in Jackson Law. If this organization had a halfway decent GM, they are likely one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl. Instead, this team is going to miss the playoffs in a LOADED AFC, Chris Grier will overpay for Tua Tagovailoa this off-season, and they will be stuck in the middle as they are now. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. The Jaylen Waddle extension was a massive mistake.
