The Dodgers have a full-blown super team and just added the perfect cherry on top. If the Dodgers were missing anything, it was a dominant closer to end the game and LA just found one. Tanner Scott is on his way to Los Angeles after signing a four year deal worth $72 million.
The deal was first reported by Mark Feinsand of MLB.com
Funny how this works. The Padres gave up a premium for Scott at the trade deadline… Only to watch him go to the Dodgers without the qualifying offer attached for financial compensation. The Dodgers continue to be one step ahead of their division rivals. Including winning the race for Roki Sasaki.
Scott, 30, was a sixth-round pick by the Orioles in the 2014 Draft. He did basically nothing in Baltimore before turning his career around only recently. The lefty reliever posted a filthy 1.75 ERA in 72 innings with Miami and San Diego last season. If he gives the Dodgers that again in 2025, good luck beating this team.
Some of the metrics on this guy last year were silly. They include being in the 100th percentile in average exit velocity, 92nd percentile in whiff%, and 99th percentile in hard hit rate. The dude is filthy. That’s the only way to describe it.
The bullpen in LA will feature the likes of Blake Treinen, Michael Kopech, and Evan Phillips to close out games. Scott now being the lead dog of that group. Have fun competing against this Dodgers team in 2025!
